Curriculum
The core Curriculum Plan includes:
Guidance ActivitiesStudents in Grades 1 through 8 complete weekly Guidance activities with the school-based counselor. While Guidance is not a graded class, it is an opportunity for students to learn and practice a variety of interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. Some of the themes that are addressed during these sessions are conflict resolution, good sportsmanship, anger management, respect and responsibility, friendship, stress management, health and wellness, personal strengths, and careers. Students in Grades K through 8 are also educated about personal safety in accordance with the Archdiocese’s “Protecting God’s Children” program. This program was designed to teach children about privacy and assertiveness in the effort to protect them against abuse. After-school workshops are offered as needed to provide additional direction concerning such topics as Study Skills or Organization. Information about these workshops is sent home with students several weeks in advance, and is usually offered to students in Grades 5 through 8. Curriculum PlanSt. John the Baptist's academic curriculum meets the requirements of the Milwaukee Archdiocese Office of Education and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. A seven-year curriculum plan is followed that evaluates one subject area per year. It includes review and updating of subject area, philosophy and goals, evaluation of scope and sequence, assessment of learning and updating textbooks and resources in that subject area. The Grade Specific Catholic Education Curriculum was developed by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee to identify religious education concepts for each grade level and provides guidance in the development of our religion classes. Religion is not only a subject taught each day but woven into all aspects of the school day as part of our religious curriculum. As a faith community we encourage students to be “People of Prayer”. Therefore, the school day begins and ends with prayer and the close and opening of the noon sessions.

What we like best about SJB is that we get to learn Math,
Phonics, Spanish and we have a lot of books to read in our classroom.
